Description

Yesh, still at it. Think maybe I'm getting somewhere... debating if his head is too large... some annoying part of me says yes, but measuring it doesn't look like it's by much if it is... =/

Must do something with this eventually.

Thinking about a poll that *OmegaDevin posted the other day about using references while drawing... and actually the category for this picture was hard to decide in relation too... while this doesn't have a direct reference (the pose was laid out by me) I did spend a lot of time flipping through an anatomy book while working on it. I want things to look like they could work that way, and often the only way to do it is to consider how each part of the body is moving in the sketch and the use of refrences to that effect makes a huge difference on the outcome. It is additionally a trick when drawing members of the opposite gender since if I want to know how a girl would look doing something I can just move around and kind of figure it out - but the male form has a few fundamental differences, so unless I'm drawing a fairly effeminate guy having some photos to sift through is a big advantage. This type of thing more than anything is what I consider a good use of references (though really if I had a picture of the post itself to squint at I would have taken it). On the whole if I were in a situation to allow it (such as a paid commission) I would probably go back after getting approval with something like the above, hire or bribe myself a model and take some shots of a person actually posing as above, then redraw or make changes based on that (It would also be helpful if they were wearing something close to what I would want the character dressed in... since the next trick to this is getting all your fabrics draped correctly).

Feh, my brain is scattered right now.

Anyway, hot sex-ay man.

And since puddle wants it on the record (I do not traditionally spend this much energy on anatomy), yes I do kind of understand about the not wanting to clothe your peoples thing right now. I think I will get over it though =P Mostly because clothes will help hide the imperfections I am sure to start spotting in a few days.
